INTRODUCTION
Following the successful conferences at Hamburg(1982), Stanford(1985), Tsukuba(1988), Chester(1991), and Stony Brook(1994), the 6th International Conference on Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation will be held on August 4 to August 8, 1997, at Himeji, Japan.
The year of 1997 is the memorial year, the 50th year since the synchrotron radiation was firstly observed. SRI is the international conference that is related to the instruments and techniques in synchrotron radiation science. Over the last decade, remarkable advances have been made in the development of light sources, radiation optics and experimental techniques as well as the science. Recently, several third generation SR facilities went into commission or are under construction. At this conference, we hope to bring together reseachers from a number of diverse fields with a common interest in SR instrumentation.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
The program will include plenary lectures, and oral and poster presentation sessions including facility reports. The subjects and topics to be discussed are as follows.
Light sources and beamline techniques
Accerelators
Insertion devices
SR beam position monitor
Optics
Microbeam
Experimental techniques
Spectroscopy
Diffraction and scattering
Imaging
Detectors
Use of coherent SR beam
Use of high energy SR beam
Use of short bunch(es)
Industrial and medical applications
Next generation SR and Sciences
VENUE and HIMEJI CITY
The conference will be held in the Himeji Citizens Hall and Chamber of Commerce Hall, which are located at the heart of Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Himeji City is located about 90 km west of Osaka and is known with the Himeji Castle that was designated as one of the world heritage in 1994. The Science Garden City, where SPring-8 facility is located, is about 30 km northwest of Himeji City.
REGISTRATION
The conference registration fee will be:
30,000 (35,000) Yen per participant,
20,000 (25,000) Yen per student participant,
10,000 Yen per accompanying person.
The values in parentheses are for late registration(payment) after March 31, 1997. Those who attend the Banquet have to pay additional 5,000 Yen. Detailed information on registration and payment will be provided in the second circular.
ACCOMODATIONS
Several hotels are available within walking distance of the venue. The organizing committee plans to reserve hotels for conference participants at reduced rates. The guest house of the SPring-8 facility will also be available with inexpensive fees. Detailed information will be included in the second circular.
SATELLITE MEETING
Satellite meetings will be organized before and after the conference, with the proposals of the International Advisory Committee and Program Committee. Any idea of satellite meetings are welcome to the secretaryr general. A tour to the SPring-8 site is also scheduled during the conference. Social Program will be organized for accompanying persons.
Further Information
Those who wish to receive further information about participation in SRI'97 are requested to complete and send this card to the SRI'97 Conference Office before October 31, 1996. A call for papers and further information regarding the program, registration fee, accomodations and social events will be given in the second circular, which will be available before the Christmas, 1996.
