Become a SPring-8 User

To conduct your research at SPring-8, please submit the research proposal during the Call for proposal round. When your proposal is approved you’ll receive Approval Notice. Then you will need to complete the following administration procedures.

1.Proposal Application and Review

Project leader can submit proposals using the web-based system. User registration must be completed prior to the submission.

Requirements of Project leader
Project leader must be employee of affiliated with a legal organization or entity that may be any of the following:
・A public or private college, university or other institution of higher education
・A public or not-for-profit research organization
・A private company
Those who can register as a radiation worker when using synchrotron radiation.
Those who can secure 2 or more experimenters (prohibition of independent experiments).
Those who are graduate students in the doctoral course at the time of the project implementation (only for graduate student proposal).
※Undergraduate students or person without affiliation cannot be the Project leader.

Proposals will be decided their adoption or rejection through an individual pre-screen by referees, a review by the SPring-8 Proposal Review Committee (PRC), and a deliberation by the SPring-8 Selection Committee.

Proposal Submission
 
  • We have two calls for proposal per year, generally in May and November. (Several BLs have six calls per year.)
  • Please submit your proposal via SPring-8 User Information My Page
  • Please note the precautions to be taken during the experiment before submitting the application.

Proposal ReviewThe review results will be viewed on the SPring-8 User Information My Page.

 

2.Post Approval

After viewing an approval notice, please continue to follow the necessary procedures through the SPring-8 User Information My Page.There are procedures to be completed by the Project leader and those to be completed by the collaborator researcher.

   
Procedures before visiting SPring-8
 
Please complete the submission of documents by the respective deadlines.
For details, please refer to Procedures Required Before the Start of Experiments at SPring-8 (Project leaders).

   
Procedures upon ArrivalThe procedure upon arrival are carried out at the first floor of North Building.
For times other than the below, the procedure will be held at the Guard House.

Experiment

3.Procedures Following the Experiment

Please return your user ID card, SPring-8/SACLA Dosimeter (with RFID tag) and any borrowed items to the return boxes before you leave SPring-8. Any equipment that you brought on the experiment should be removed from SPring-8.

   
Departure ProceduresPlease return all items you collected at North Building, Main Building 2F, and SACLA Experimental Facility.
   
Submit Notification of Completion of BeamtimePlease submit the Notification of Completion of Beamtime via SPring-8 User Information My Page.
   
Submit Spring-8 Experiments Summary ReportPlease submit your Spring-8 Experiments Summary Report via SPring-8 User Information My Pagewithin 60 days after each experiment (within 60 days after the end of the research term for PX-BL proposals and contract BL).
   
Publication of results・Please publish the results you obtained by using Spring-8 as a peer reviewed journal, SPring-8/SACLA Research Report, or technical journal article approved by JASRI.
・Please clearly state the research number on your publications, and also indicate that the results are obtained at SPring-8.
・Please register in the Publication Database.
