Survey on SPring-8 usage and needs
SPring-8 has served more than 300,000 users in the 25 years since it was opened to the public. However, the facility has been aging, and, considering the large upgrade projects ongoing, completed, or planned at many facilities outside Japan, there is concern about its international competitiveness. Therefore a large-scale upgrade of the SPring-8 facility, SPring-8-II, is now being considered. To quantitatively identify the needs of users, we are conducting this survey on “Usage and Needs” of users and potential users from all over the world.
The survey consists of two parts. Part I is methods-based, mainly for current users, inquiring about the number of days per year you would like to use for each of the major analysis methods. Part II is a topic-based survey. This is mainly for potential users who are interested in cross-disciplinary use of synchrotron radiation that may not be easily categorized into the methods of Part-I, or who may consider future use of synchrotron radiation. You may respond to both parts, or to just one of the two.
For entering the number of days desired, please
- Indicate the ideal number of days you would like to use the current beamlines, without considering issues such as proposal selection, budget, and upgrades.
- Please indicate your interest even if you are not experienced in a given area: assume that you will be given sufficient support.
- Although the performance of SPring-8-II will be greatly enhanced, please base your estimate of days needed on the present performance of SPring-8.
Please refer to the provided guides for the analysis methods (links in each section)
The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. It is very important, and will help us consider the future plans and maintenance policies of beamlines at SPring-8-II. We greatly appreciate your cooperation.
