Program Objective &amp; Partner Facilities<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To promote scientific research expected to yield superior outcomes through cross-facility collaboration rather than using SPring-8 in isolation, JASRI invites <strong>Complementary Use Proposals<\/strong> combining SPring-8 with one or more major national research infrastructures:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>SACLA:<\/strong> X-ray Free Electron Laser Facility (<a class=\"c1\" href=\"http:\/\/sacla.xfel.jp\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JASRI<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>J-PARC MLF:<\/strong> Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility &#8211; Neutron Facility (<a class=\"c1\" href=\"https:\/\/neutron.cross.or.jp\/en\/experiment-en\/proposals-en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CROSS<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>HPCI (including Fugaku):<\/strong> High Performance Computing Infrastructure incorporating the supercomputer Fugaku (<a class=\"c1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpci-office.jp\/pages\/e_using_hpci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RIST<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><a class=\"c1\" name=\"2\"><\/a>2. Eligible Application Scenarios &amp; Proposal Types<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A proposal is eligible for the Complementary Use Program under any of the following three scenarios:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Scenario A (Post-Approval Application):<\/strong> Proposals approved or already conducted at SACLA, J-PARC MLF, or HPCI (Fugaku), for which a complementary SPring-8 proposal is now being submitted.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Scenario B (Simultaneous Application):<\/strong> Proposals submitted simultaneously to SPring-8 and one or more partner facilities for the same research term.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Scenario C (Planned Sequential Application):<\/strong> Proposals submitted to SPring-8 with plans to submit a follow-up proposal to SACLA, J-PARC MLF, or HPCI (Fugaku) after completing the SPring-8 experiment.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Eligible SPring-8 Proposal Categories:<\/strong> <a href=\"\/?p=57016&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">General Proposals<\/a> and <a href=\"\/?p=57018&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graduate Student Proposals<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Click <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/summary_table_2027A_2_e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> to see the list of beamlines and research period available for 2027A beamtime by type of proposal. Proposal types marked with \u2605 are available for the program.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><a class=\"c1\" name=\"3\"><\/a>3. Step-by-Step Online Submission Procedure<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Independent Facility Submissions:<\/strong> Applicants must submit separate proposal applications to each respective organization (<a class=\"c1\" href=\"http:\/\/sacla.xfel.jp\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JASRI<\/a> for SACLA, <a class=\"c1\" href=\"https:\/\/neutron.cross.or.jp\/en\/experiment-en\/proposals-en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CROSS<\/a> for J-PARC MLF, and <a class=\"c1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpci-office.jp\/pages\/e_using_hpci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RIST<\/a> for HPCI\/Fugaku).<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Select Proposal Category:<\/strong> Log in to the <a href=\"http:\/\/user.spring8.or.jp\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPring-8 User Information (UI) Website<\/a>, create a new application, and select either <a href=\"\/?p=57016&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">General Proposal<\/a> or <a href=\"\/?p=57018&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graduate Student Proposal<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Enable Complementary Use Flag:<\/strong> Check the box labeled &#8216;Complementary Use of SPring-8\/SACLA, J-PARC MLF, or HPCI including supercomputer Fugaku&#8217; in the online form.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Complete Complementary Use Abstract:<\/strong> In the dedicated Complementary Use section, select partner facility names and clearly describe: (a) research objectives, (b) justification for multi-facility access, (c) anticipated synergistic effects, and (d) specific details of approved or simultaneous applications (proposal numbers, titles, PIs, research groups).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><a class=\"c1\" name=\"4\"><\/a>4. Independent Peer Review &amp; Result Dissemination<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Independent Evaluation:<\/strong> Proposals are reviewed independently by each organization (<a class=\"c1\" href=\"http:\/\/sacla.xfel.jp\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JASRI<\/a>, <a class=\"c1\" href=\"https:\/\/neutron.cross.or.jp\/en\/experiment-en\/proposals-en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CROSS<\/a>, and <a class=\"c1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpci-office.jp\/pages\/e_using_hpci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RIST<\/a>) according to their respective review criteria. Approval by one facility does not guarantee approval by partner facilities.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Public Designation:<\/strong> When accepted by JASRI, the proposal will be publicly designated as a &#8216;SPring-8 Research Proposal in Complementary Use&#8217; regardless of the outcome at partner facilities.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Industrial Application Subfield:<\/strong> If applying under the <a href=\"\/?p=40929&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Industrial Application subfield<\/a>, proposals are evaluated with emphasis on industrial technology significance, economic impact, and social value.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><a class=\"c1\" name=\"5\"><\/a>5.
