Policy on Research Proposals and Beamtimes for 2022B
Since a certain amount of beamtime cancellation due to entry restrictions to Japan from overseas and other reasons arising from COVID-19 is expected to continue even in 2022B term, the following policies will be applied to research proposals and beamtimes for 2022B term.
- Recommendation for Project Leaders with Overseas Affiliations
SPring-8 Users Office ask that you make efforts to secure research collaborators currently residing in Japan who would be able to conduct the proposed experiments (including setup) at SPring-8 even in your absence. Please note that this not a necessary requirement for proposal application and does not affect the proposal review.
If you cannot secure such collaborators 40 days before the scheduled start of your experiment, your beamtime will be cancelled and allocated to the waitlist (see below)．
- Selection of Waitlisted Proposals
From the list of research proposals (General and Budding Researchers Support Proposals) which were rejected for the 2022B proposal call, a waitlist will be made based on the results of the scientific, technical and safety reviews. Project leaders whose research proposals have been selected for the waitlist will be notified in the “Notification of Review Results”, which will be available online in late July 2022.
When beamtime cancellations arise, a proposal from the waitlist will be selected. Selection will be made primarily on scientific values, but factors such as requested bunch modes and numbers of shifts will be also be taken into consideration. The project leader of the selected proposal will be contacted no later than approx. 30 days before the scheduled start of the experiment.
Above policies will not be applied to proposals and beamtimes allocated at Contract Beamlines. Please contact the relevant Contract Beamline Office if necessary.
