Refereed Journals (incl. refereed proceedings and doctoral thesis)

How to publish your research results and register published works

Project leaders who carried out non-proprietary research must publish their research results in a refereed journal or equivalent, clearly stating that the results were obtained through the use of SPring-8. Project leaders are also required to register the published works with the Publications Database within three years from the end of the research term.
When a single experiment did not yield publishable results, you may bring together, in one publication, the results of subsequent relevant experiments (proposals) carried out before the three-year deadline. If this is the case, be sure to provide all relevant proposal numbers in your publication when you register the published work with the Publications Database.
Publications Database

*Publish your research results with due acknowledgement of SPring-8 even if the work is mainly based on the results obtained elsewhere (even if the experiment at SPring-8 is of minor importance in the work). Always make sure that you indicate the use of SPring-8, the beamline used, and the proposal number in the acknowledgements section. If you have conducted experiments on more than one proposal to obtain the final results, provide all the proposal numbers relevant to the main proposal. See below for examples of acknowledgements indicating the use of SPring-8.

Examples of acknowledgements

Recently, the significance and effectiveness of SPring-8 have been evaluated by the government and its affiliated organizations. The results may not be recognized as those obtained through the use of SPring-8 or the use of a particular beamline if the use of the beamline is not clearly stated in the published work.
Always make sure that you indicate the use of a beamline at SPring-8 and include the beamline used and the proposal number in the description of the experiment or the acknowledgements section.

Examples of acknowledgement: General Proposal, etc.

The synchrotron radiation experiments were performed at BL#### of SPring-8 with the approval of the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) (Proposal Nos. 2010A####, 2009B####, and 2009A####).

Examples of acknowledgement: Priority Proposal

The synchrotron radiation experiments were performed at SPring-8 with the approval of the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) as **Name of Proposal Type** (Proposal No. 2014A####/BL No. ####).
*Indicate the organization from which you received support.

JASRI: Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute
JAEA: Japan Atomic Energy Agency
NIMS: National Institute for Materials Science

Registration of published works

After publishing results, register the results online with the Publications Database (click here for the instructions on how to register).
Registered publications will be included in the Statistics on Publications Resulting from Work at SPring-8 and used to disseminate and demonstrate to the public the SPring-8 research results. Note that the number of refereed publications registered, linked to the beamline and the proposal number (project leader), is one of the proposal review criteria.
Remember to provide the proposal number when registering with the database. To find out which publication is linked to which proposal, go to My Page (log in required) > Entry Application/reporting > Proposal/Use Plan Submission > Submitted.
