Industrial Application Proposal Review Committee

Dates: February 2008, September 2008, March 2011

Overview: Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) supported the promotion of industrial application up to research term 2011B after the Industrial Application Fields were designated as the Priority Fields for the Priority Research Program on 26 January 2007, as the successor to the Program for Strategic Use of Advanced Large-scale Research Facilities, which started from research term 2005B.
During this period, JASRI established a Review Committee consisting of outside experts to reflect the results of its review of the research proposal in the management and improvement of the program. The Review Committee reviewed the Industrial Application Program in terms of the use system.

Nanotechnology Proposal Review Committee

Dates: March 2009, March 2013
Overview: Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) designated Nanotechnology Support Fields as the Priority Fields for the Priority Research Program on 26 January 2007 and, from fiscal year 2007, supported the research projects in nanotechnology/materials fields aimed at creating innovation within 5 to 10 years.

Because almost two years had passed since the start of the Nanotechnology Support Program, JASRI established a Review Committee consisting of outside experts to reflect its opinions on the future management of the research support program. This Review Committee reviewed the Nanotechnology Support Program on 12 March 2009 (Thu).

Medical Bio Trial Use Review Committee

Dates: March 2007, March 2008

Overview: With the purpose of expanding the use of synchrotron radiation in the fields of medicine and biology, Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) designated Medical Bio Fields as the Priority Fields for the Priority Research Program on 14 November 2005 and has called for Medical Bio Trial Use Proposals since fiscal year 2006.
JASRI established a Review Committee consisting of outside experts to reflect the results of its review of the implementation and the support system in the future management of the research support program.

Medical Bio Proposal Review Committee

Date: March 2010

Overview: In addition to Medical Bio Trial Use started in 2006, which had been carried out at beamlines for imaging, Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) started calling for Medical Bio Proposals in 2008 to be carried out at beamlines for small-angle scattering, crystal structure analysis, and powder diffraction. JASRI has supported “research activities aimed at understanding the cause, diagnosis, and treatment of primary diseases” up to research term 2010B.
JASRI established a Review Committee consisting of outside experts to reflect the results of its review of the implementation of the research proposal program and its recommendations regarding medical application in future development.

Innovation Proposal Review Committee

Date: June 2016
Overview: Considering the growth strategy adopted in the Cabinet meeting of the Japanese government, Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI) designated Green/Life Innovation Fields (2011B–2013B) and SR Smart Innovation Fields (2014A–2015B) as the Priority Fields for the Priority Research Program.
Upon termination of the designation of these fields, the Innovation Proposal Review Committee reviewed the implementation of the research proposal program, which will help develop future strategies for research activities carried out at SPring-8.
