Details: Long-Term Proposals

Long-term use of the facility is intended to promote research projects that are expected to produce outstanding results in the field of science and technology, pave the way for new research areas and new research methodology, and contribute to a notable improvement of technology for the industrial base by fully utilizing the facilities of SPring-8. Once proposals are approved, beamtime access is basically guaranteed for two years and it is also possible to apply for multiple beamlines with one proposal.

There is one proposal call and review session per year (term B only), and the application procedure for proposals takes place before that of general proposals. The maximum amount of beamtime allocated to each long-term proposal is 16% of all shifts allocated to each beamline for each half-year research term. Once proposals are approved, beamtime access is basically guaranteed for two years and it is possible to apply for multiple beamlines with one proposal.

From the second research term and on, project leaders are required to submit an “Application for Beamtime” by the designated date to request a specific time period in which they wish to use beamtime.

Project leaders must give a poster presentation on their research plan and project status of the project conducted at the SPring-8 symposium annually. When long-term proposals are completed, they are subject to a post project review.
